Ok Geico...it's becoming annoying!

When the Geico gecko was first seen in television ads in 1999, it was clear that Geico was making a move to get their brand name into Americans' heads.  13 years and a few different campaigns later, Geico is starting to get on our nerves.

The problem isn't that they're so prevalent on most of the channels.  It's not that they have had so many different individual campaigns.  It's not that they pay millions of dollars to increase their brand awareness.

The problem is that they are running out of ideas and at this point, the advertising isn't even about insurance.

Take the following examples of Geico ads:

Clearly they are doing something right.  According to the-top-tens.com, Geico is ranked #1 in car insurance companies.  Many of the reviews for Geico are related to actually saving money, which is the basis for many of the commercials they release.  Other reasons for their top ranking include great customer service and for their maximum coverage.

Perhaps Geico could change it up a bit and create a campaign focusing on their customer service or coverage.  Then again, what would I have to complain about on my blog then?

Ray Lewis likes sea turtles, the color purple, and little dresses!

It's been a few weeks since I've posted so I'll be going on a binge today.

My advertisement for today is a VISA commercial with Ray Lewis in a press conference where a little girl asks some interesting questions....

This commercial defines contrast.  Here you have the scariest defensive player in the NFL answering questions and then this adorable little girl starts asking questions not usually heard at a press conference.  All Ray Lewis can do is answer and laugh.

VISA's ad department dominated this commercial and has had me thinking about it for days...

It has such emotional appeal while using such a big scary dude.  How they pulled that off is beyond me.
